On January 17, 2018, a business delegation from Chongqing comprised of representatives from Yuxin’ou company (operator of the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe railway express) visited Mannheim.
The half-day stay includes meeting with Dr. Peter Kurz, Mayor of Mannheim, and Mr. Christian Specht, First Vice Mayor, presentations on the potential of the Rotterdam-Genoa corridor, on the potential of a railway track between Chongqing and Mannheim, as well as on the hub logistics of Mannheim. From Chinese side, Ms. Grace Zhang, Deputy General Manager of Yuxin’ou company, on behalf of the delegation, briefed the company’s structure and expansion plans of the railway line.
As the pairing cities under IUC program, Mannheim and Chongqing have been proactively exploring concrete cooperation opportunities on several occasions since the relationship was established in May 2017. Regular communication channel has formed among key stakeholders of the two sides. Political willingness to support such bilateral cooperation is strong.
Currently, the two sides are reviewing the market demand and implementation steps for the setting up of the direct railway connection.
