The event took place in Hanoi on 18-19 September 2018, few days after the launching of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) in Surabaya.
Practitioners from 14 Vietnamese cities participated at the two-day training event, including Binh City, Khan Hoa City, Ben Tre City, Hanoi City, Phan Thiet City, Than Hoa City, Ho Chi Minh City, Nam Dinh City, Can Tho City, Tuy Hoa City, Hai Phong City, Bac Ninh City, Hue City, and Ninh Binh City.
The stakeholders and universities also participated in the training event including UCLG ASPAC, UN HABITAT, the Academy of Managers for Construction and Cities, the Asia Institute of Technology, the National Economics University, FMC and the Asia Institute of City Management.
Mr. Bruno Angelet, EU Ambassador to Vietnam, opened the event through giving appreciation to the IUC Asia for successfully initiating the activity in Vietnam. He also raised the awareness and impact of the climate change and energy issues to societies.
The training was guided directly by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (EC JRC). Ms. Silvia Rivas and Mr. Jean Francois Dallemand shared the EU toolbox for developing cities climate action plan.
Participants could gain more knowledge and understanding about the tools used in Europe for tackling climate change at local level.
In the training, practitoneres shared their cities’ current initiatives for energy and climate change.
