Within the education and smart city clusters, an online exchange session was held today between 13 experts from the IUC, Yantai and Rome, including Yantai University and the universities Sapienza and Tuscia of Rome. In order to complement the university cooperation, the partners involved the Smart City Lab of Rome/Lazio and the innovation center of Yantai Jereh Uni-Orange. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the cooperation roadmap drafted by the IUC team.
After a brief introduction by the IUC team, Professors Rita Biasi and Giuseppe Scarascia Mugnozza from Tuscia University introduced the Department for Innovation in Biological, Agri-food, and Forest Systems of Tuscia University. They addressed the rising interest of integrating green / nature-based solutions into the urban development planning. Prof. Scarascia said that these topics have gained relevance during the Covid19 pandemic crisis, creating opportunities in areas like bio city, forest city, sustainable farming systems, and urban agriculture. He referred to ways to reorganise urban life by greening cities, being more efficient with the use of resources, and incorporating IoT solutions. He also highlighted Tuscia’s role in producing a Green Book on Biocities in an EU funded programme and proposed the development of a joint curriculum on green landscape and urban forestry with Yantai colleagues.
Professors Flavio Rosa and Patrick Maurelli from Sapienza’s CITERA (Interdepartmental Centre for Territory, Building, Conservation and Environment) introduced the research group of eight professors and researchers willing to cooperate with Yantai partners. They presented a matrix for CITERA’s research topics and their possible applications, including inter alia:
- Smart Near-Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB)
- Innovative Design: Digital Twin & GIS BIM integration
- Future BIM: integration with Blockchain, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence
- Building Age-friendly Certification
They explained the application of these topics in the fields of Cultural Heritage, Energy Efficiency, Urban Regeneration and Construction.
Professor Johnny Zhang from Yantai Jereh Uni-Orange introduced a platform for open innovation and collective collaboration, to solve the difficulties of R&D design. Uni-Orange centralises and publicises specific engineering projects requests by academia, Government and Chinese private enterprises in order to provide an opportunity for international experts to participate by providing solutions. His colleague Ryan Tang from the Yantai Jereh Uni-Orange introduced few projects under implementation.
Professor Gianluca Fabbri introduced the Smart City Lab of Rome/Lazio, which supports entities stemming from university research to reach the market with relevant applications in the field of smart cities. It’s online EU – Asia Smart Platform provides an opportunity for experts on both ends of the Eurasian continent to cooperate.
Eduardo de Francesco expert from Setel, a company supported by Rome Lazio IoT Smart City labs and spinned-off from Sapienza University Rome, highlighted the importance of integrated logistics support (ISL) and explained the importance of planning and providing sustainable solutions to the problem of accelerated obsolescence of city infrastructures especially in the IoT.
The online event was closed with remarks by Pablo Gándara from the IUC team who highlighting the project’s goal to produce sustainable results thereby the importance of engaging key stakeholders and experts in Europe and China as happened in this event. He also referred to the EU’s Green Deal and underlined the importance of topics discussed such as bio cities, urban forestry, urban agriculture as well as the greening of cities and the usage of efficient IoT solutions for smart cities.
